JOHN P. JONES OF THE NAVY IS DEAD AT AGE 21
Unlike his famous namesake – John Paul Jones, “father of the United States navy,” who is famous for his “I have not yet begun to fight” – John Paul Jones, 21, of Clayton, Ga., did not have a chance to fight.
The recruit seaman, inducted into the navy March 14 in Atlanta, died Tuesday in the Great Lakes Naval Training Hospital. He bad been in the hospital less than a day. An autopsy yesterday showed he had bronchial pneumonia.
When John Paul Jones enlisted for a three year hitch, navy recruiters at Atlanta dressed him in a tricorn hat and a colonial naval costume, complete with sword and buckled shoes, and gave him a book on the original John Paul Jones.
He was no relation to the American naval hero.” – FindĀ A Grave
