Suicide: hanging, family reported he was homesick and may not have truly wanted to die but believed a suicide attempt, or at least faking one would earn him a discharge. No mental health professional was available at Heim’s base for consultation and a Navy Chaplin allegedly advised Heim to simply “stick it out”
