head injuries suffered in pugil stick bout
Illness: Post Traumatic infraction of right cerebellum, broncho pneumonia bilateral-beaten by 2 recruits with pugil sticks at insistence of instructor during session at MCRD San Diego. McClure was a intellectually impaired recruit who’d been rejected by the Army twice. He was picked up by the Marines after presenting a passing ASVAB score and was shipped off to California for basic training. There, McClure’s mental deficiencies led to problems with his training and he was placed in a special unit for recruits with discipline problems. McClure did not want to fight anyone during the pugil stick bout that led to his death. Injuries occurred 6 December 1975, McClure lingered in a Houston hospital until his death in March 76′
