Laredo Weekly Times 8 Dec 1918
REMAINS OF PRIVATE LAKE EXPECTED HERE TOMORROW
FUNERAL WILL BE HELD FROM THE RAILROAD STATION WITH FULL MILITARY HONORS TO LAREDO SOLDIER
While no definite information has been received regarding the shipment of the remains of Private William H Lake, U.S. Marines, who died in Paris Island, S.C. on Thursday. It is probably that if the remains left Paris Island they will reach Laredo tomorrow.
The funeral arrangements have been made in that the funeral will take place from the railroad station with full military honors.”
*headstone shown on Findagrave gives 27 DEC 1901 as his birthdate and also identifies him as a 1st Lieutenant. The death certificate issued by Parris Island gives a birthdate of 27 DEC 1899. He could have lied abut his age to enlist, but its unclear if that was the case. The rank given on the headstone is also highly suspect as all indications seem to point to him being a recruit. He enlisted 4 months prior to his death.
